Campsite WiFi Interference Inside & Out

Was it the lockdowns driving up device usage, or just fuelling our levels of unreasonably high expectation or frustration, especially of an ‘at home experience or hotel quality WiFi’ wherever we go now?

How do you deal with the complaints, if struggling to keep up with customer demand or delivery when offering free services, and what are the potential pitfalls or issues on a campsite?

Not going into a very detailed list of the construction of your Caravan or Mobile Home, likely a combination of wood, steel, drywall, vinyl panels, glass, and variations of particleboard and adhesive.

That is before any furnishings, fixtures, electrical wiring, plumbing, or water tanks are added.

None of which is particularly user-friendly when it comes to dodging radio waves, or wireless network technology, which is what WiFi is.

Now let’s add a few more common items, tables, stainless steel sinks, bathroom tiling, glass showers and ceramic toilets, Microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, Laptops, TV’s, Fluorescent lights, Mobile phones, Wireless video cameras, games consoles and any other connected devices….

If, we now head outside; what is the weather doing, raining or very humid? Is the mobile home near a lake or in a particularly dry, dusty, and windy area?

Possibly an obvious, but frequently overlooked one, have the trees grown, since the wireless network was installed?

How close are other WiFi Access Points, are they still in their original positions, or have more been added recently, have other mobile homes been moved to the same area, or new buildings and facilities in the park been added over the years?

Is it simply, more people staying on-site?

Or because all are turning up with many more personal devices, wanting to connect to the network, especially in the evenings and eating up all available bandwidth, particularly streaming services.

Have there been a variety of other new sensors added for security, heating, water leak detection, air quality and lighting?

Many of which you probably already have variations of at home too, but don’t give a second thought to now.

So, what else could be on the site, Satellite TV, more wireless links, swimming pools, solar panels, till systems, Merchant terminals, Self-serve touch screens and lots of mobile users?

What about actual noise levels? Kids in the pool, bands at night, all play their part.

Has someone just parked a campervan in the way of the nearest Access Point

Or just the fact that you are too far away from the nearest Access Point, which you can see clearly with great signal strength, but it may not be able to see your device that well; especially amongst all this other clutter and interference, and that your device is simply not designed to be radiating strong radio waves.

Wireless networks are great; but they need to be managed, maintained, and occasionally upgraded to meet demand and exceed customer expectations. Get in touch, if you want a WiFi Health Check for your Holiday or Residential Park, our Surveys are very thorough, as we factor in, or map all these considerations and more; as well as recommend and carry out the best fixes, it will be worth it, to please your customers next year and several more to come, you may be able to cost justify it or better still, monetise it correctly.
